Τις υποψηφιότητες για τις Χρυσές Σφαίρες που θα απονεμηθούν την Τρίτη 10 Ιανουαρίου ανακοίνωσε η Ένωση Ανταποκριτών Ξένου Τύπου. Η 80ή τελετή απονομής θα έχει οικοδεσπότη τον stand-up κωμικό, σεναριογράφο και κινηματογραφιστή Τζέροντ Καρμάικλ.

Η τελετή απονομής θα έχει έντονο ενδιαφέρον. Παραδοσιακά οι Χρυσές Σφαίρες θεωρούνται προάγγελοι των Όσκαρ. Όμως φέτος, τα βλέμματα θα είναι στραμμένα και στην εκδήλωση, μετά την περσινή τελετή, από την οποία έλειπε η λάμψη, το κοινό, οι διάσημοι οικοδεσπότες και η τηλεοπτική κάλυψη. Κι αυτό, λόγω των διαμαρτυριών του Χόλιγουντ για έλλειψη συμπεριληπτικότητας στα μέλη της Ένωσης.

Οι υποψηφιότητες πάντως θεωρούνται σημαντικές καθώς «μετρούν» τη δύναμη ταινιών που είναι φαβορί για την βραδιά των Όσκαρ.

Κινηματογραφικά, ξεχωρίζει η ταινία «Τα Πάντα Όλα» (Everything Everywhere All at Once) με 6 υποψηφιότητες, που διεκδικεί βραβείο στις κατηγορίες Ταινία, Σκηνοθεσία, Σενάριο και στις Ερμηνείες. Ξεχωρίζει επίσης και το φιλμ «Banshees of Inisherin» του Μάρτιν ΜακΝτόνα, με 8 υποψηφιότητες στις κατηγορίες ταινία, σκηνοθεσία, σενάριο, μουσική και στις τέσσερις ερμηνευτικές υποψηφιότητες.

Επίσης, 5 υποψηφιότητες συγκέντρωσε το «Babylon» του Ντάμιεν Σαζέλ, όπως και η ταινία «The Fabelmans». Ενδιαφέρον έχουν και οι 3 υποψηφιότητες της ταινίας «Tar» του Τοντ Φιλντ με την Κέιτ Μπλάνσετ στον ομώνυμο ρόλο.
